Singapore Government

Tribunal for the Maintenance of Parents

Provides a legal recourse for elderly parents to seek maintenance from their children when they are unable to support themselves adequately.

What We Do

The Tribunal for the Maintenance of Parents provides a legal recourse for elderly parents to seek maintenance from their children when they are unable to support themselves adequately.

They may apply for maintenance order at the Tribunal, if they meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 60 and above
  • Domiciled and resident in Singapore
  • Unable to maintain themselves financially

Before filing at the Tribunal, they would be required to attend an intake interview with the Office of the Commissioner for the Maintenance of Parents (CMP).

CMP is a non-legal platform to help elderly parents and their children resolve maintenance issues through conciliation.
