Seek Legal Help and Advice

This website will no longer be available from 30 June 2022. Please visit the Family Assist portal at for information, services, and support to make informed decisions about your marriage or to register for the Mandatory Parenting Programme.

Inform Yourself about Financial Issues

It is important that you inform yourself about the legal requirements, implications on financial matters and child support before getting a divorce. Divorcing couples should seek counselling from Divorce Support Specialist Agencies (DSSAs)/Strengthening Families Programme@Family Service Centres (FAM@FSCs) as well.

Before proceeding with the divorce, see a lawyer for advice and assistance. Discuss all matters including child custody issues and other ancillary matters. The lawyer will then prepare the necessary legal documents on your behalf.

Legal aid and free legal advice are also available for those who meet the eligibility criteria and for victims of domestic abuse.
