The Ministry of Social and Family Development has reappointed Mr Ching Wei Hong, Chief Operating Officer of OCBC Bank as Chairman for the Families for Life (FFL) Council. The Council will commence on a new two-year term from 1 August 2015 to 31 July 2017.

The Council comprises 13 members and includes a broad mix of representatives from different sectors, backgrounds, races and ages. The new members, Gurmit Singh, Jeff Cheong, Lin Ruping and Ishak Ismail, come from the private and media sectors. All Council members, other than Effendy Ibrahim who will step down to focus on other interests, will continue to serve a second term. (Please refer to Annex A for the full list of FFL Council Members.)

Speaking at the Singapore Parenting Congress, an event organised by the out-going FFL Council, Ms Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development, said, “The Families for Life Council is a key community partner to support and engage families in Singapore. MSF would like to thank Wei Hong and his team for their dedication and commitment in promoting family as a building block of our society. Their efforts have gone a long way in helping us create a conducive environment for families to thrive. The new members will expand and enrich the Council’s perspectives and experience to better engage families in Singapore.”

Council Chairman, Mr Ching Wei Hong said, “The past two years have been enriching for our FFL Council. We came together with a common vision to encourage families to nurture strong ties. Launching the ‘Families for Life’ movement last year thus marked the start of that steady journey towards our goal. As the new Council carries on our movement’s drive for ongoing conversations with families from all walks, we will continue to develop relevant and exciting programmes to promote the importance of having regular family time to strengthen family bonds, and build ‘families for life’ amongst Singaporeans.”
