Singapore to host week-long series of ASEAN meetings on women's and children's issues

The Ministry of Social and Family Development will host the 13th Meeting of the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), the 15th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW) and the 8th Meeting of the ACW Plus 3 which involves China, Japan and the Republic of Korea in the week of 3 to 7 October 2016. The Ministry and the Tsao Foundation will jointly organize a Forum on “Women’s Financial Security in Old Age” on 7 October 2016.

Established in 2010, the ACWC is mandated to develop and implement programmes for the promotion and protection of women’s and children’s rights in the region. At its 13th meeting in Singapore from 3 to 5 October 2016, the ACWC will review the implementation of projects under the 2012-2016 Work Plan and continue discussions on the development of the 2016-2020 Work Plan.

Singapore will host and chair the 15th ACW and 8th ACW Plus Three meetings on 6 and 7 October 2016. The ACW is tasked to address and monitor the implementation of ASEAN’s key priorities in the advancement of the status of women in the region. The ACW Plus Three meeting aims to expand the sharing of information, resources, experiences and cooperation at a wider regional level. Amongst other issues, the ACW will be finalizing its Work Plan for 2016-2020.

The Tsao Foundation Forum on Women’s Financial Security in Old Age on 7 October is an initiative under the ACW Work Plan for 2016-2020. It aims to raise awareness of the Regional Learning Network on Women’s Financial Security in Old Age – comprising key policy makers, academics, think-tanks and other stakeholders - and catalyse action on the issue of financial security among older women.
