Steps taken to make social service careers attractive

Type: Forum Letters,

Topic(s): Social Service Agencies & Partners,

We thank Mr Jeffrey Law Lee Beng for his letter “Social service jobs not inferior to others (Jan 28).

The Ministry of Social and Family Development and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) have been working closely with our partners to make the social service sector a career of choice. We offer scholarships and study awards to undergraduates, while eligible mid-career switchers can join the sector through Workforce Singapore’s Career Conversion Programmes.

We are heartened that, in a 2024 survey, more than 80 per cent of Singaporeans recognised the importance of social service professionals.

With 2025 dedicated as the Year of Celebrating Social Service Professionals, we will continue to highlight the value of social service careers through the NCSS’ Social Service Tribe campaign, as well as recognise the positive impact of the work of our social service professionals through the new sector awards.
