Marriage support and counselling

Marriage gives us meaning and strength as we journey through life. A strong and resilient marriage requires commitment, effort and open communication.

Currently, two Strengthening Families Programme Centres (FAM centres) offer marriage programmes for the following groups of couples:

  • Minor couples, where at least one party is aged 18 years and above but below 21 years old at the point of marriage registered with the Registry of Marriages.
  • Young couples, where the groom is aged 21 years and above but below 25 years, and the bride is aged 21 years and above at the point of marriage registered with the Registry of Marriages.
  • Transnational couples, i.e. a Singapore Citizen marrying a non-resident.

Other couples are also encouraged to attend marriage preparation programmes. Find a suitable marriage preparation programme.

A divorce can be challenging and emotional, especially when children are involved. FAM centres offer programmes and services for divorcing/divorced couples as well as their children, to mitigate the impact of divorce.

For couples looking to strengthen their marriage amidst challenges, or those considering divorce or are divorced, support resources are available via the Family Assist portal. Youths with divorced/divorcing parents may also find resources and support at Youth Assist.

FAM centres offer family counselling, which provides a safe space for individuals, couples and families to work on their family relationship issues. Counselling sessions are conducted face-to-face.

Individuals who wish to chat, call or email a counsellor anonymously may seek oonline counselling services instead, which are also offered by FAM centres.
