FAQs
Q: How do I know this survey/the interviewer is legitimate?
A: This survey is commissioned by MSF. Trained interviewers from Media Research Consultants Pte Ltd (MRC) will conduct the face-to-face interview. You will be able to identify the interviewer by an authorisation letter issued by MSF and an identity pass issued by MRC. You can also verify the interviewer’s identity by calling survey vendor, MRC (Mr Tan Kee Seng, 9680 5966, Mon – Fri, 9am to 6pm). Our surveyors will never ask for payment or bank details.
Q: Why was I selected?
A: Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 15 and above were randomly selected from the government administrative database to ensure we get a representative sample of the population. Your participation helps us gather accurate data that represents our society's diverse perspectives.
Q: What topics does the survey cover?
A: The survey covers a wide range of topics relating to family and society, such as marriage and parenthood aspirations, family relationships, gender equality, social mobility, and the social compact.
Q: How long will the survey take?
A: The survey typically takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. Our interviewers are trained to conduct the interview efficiently while ensuring you have enough time to provide thoughtful responses.
Q: How will my personal information be protected?
A: Information collected for this study will be kept strictly confidential and stored under secured conditions.
Your personal information, such as name, contact number and address, will be separated from your answers to the questionnaire and de-identified (i.e., only identified with a serial number). Your responses to the questionnaire will be linked only to this serial number. The data collected from you and other respondents will be aggregated during analysis (i.e., summarised and presented at the overall level).
The contact information that MSF has shared with MRC for the purposes of survey fieldwork are protected; MRC is legally only allowed to use the contact information for the purposes of this survey and no other. Upon completion of the survey fieldwork, MRC will destroy its copy of all individuals’ contact information.
Q: Will my responses be shared with other organisations?
A: The data will be stored such that your responses to the questionnaire cannot be linked back to you. The aggregated research findings (without personal information) may be shared with other government agencies for policy-making purposes.
Q: Do I have to participate in this survey?
A: While participation is voluntary, your input is valuable and will help the Ministry of Social and Family Development to better understand sentiments on family and social issues. The knowledge gained may benefit the public in the future, through its impact on social or public policies.
Q: Can someone else in my household complete the survey instead?
A: As the selection of respondents is done at an individual level, we are unable to allow household members to replace your participation.
Q: Are the questions in English only, or are there other language options?
A: The survey can be completed in English, Chinese, Malay, or Tamil. For those who require assistance with reading/writing, the interviewer will be present to facilitate. When making the appointment, please let MRC know if you prefer to do the survey in a language other than English, and they will arrange a suitable interviewer accordingly.
Q: Can I complete the survey at another time if I'm busy?
A: Yes, our interviewers can schedule a return visit at a more convenient time. You can contact our survey vendor, MRC (Mr Tan Kee Seng, 9680 5966, Mon – Fri, 9am to 6pm), to schedule an appointment.
Q: I have misplaced my invitation letter. Can I still participate in the survey?
