1. The paper on “Improving the Lives of Low-Income and Vulnerable Families in Singapore” sets out the Government’s approach to ensuring stability, self-reliance, and social mobility for lower-income families.
2. In recent years, outcomes for the lower-income and families with needs have shown improvements, including a narrowing of the income gap. Nevertheless, Singapore must continue to adapt our policies in response to the changing circumstances and needs. This paper details three priority areas, namely: (a) investing in every Singaporean; (b) providing assurance to deal with life’s uncertainties; and (c) improving our social services.
3. We adopt a coordinated approach across our many helping hands - strong family, community support, and instilling a sense of self-reliance and personal responsibility. By providing multiple layers of support, with more resources directed to lower-income families, this ensures that all Singaporeans have opportunities to develop to their fullest potential.
