Clarification on online post about elderly tissue sellers at Lavender MRT

Type: Fact Check

Topic(s): Financial Assistance & Social Support

You may have seen an online post alleging that staff from Jalan Besar Community Centre had chased away elderly tissue sellers from Lavender MRT station.

The individuals talking to the elderly are our colleagues from the Social Service Office (SSO) @ Jalan Besar. The two elderly men are known to the SSO, as we are supporting one of them with ComCare Long Term Assistance, and assisting the other with his application for financial assistance. Our officers were following up by checking on their well-being and assessing how else we can support them.

Building an inclusive and a caring society is a collective effort. If you come across individuals or families who require support, please reach out to us at our ComCare hotline at 1800-222-0000 or approach the nearest SSO (www.msf.gov.sg/ssolocator) or Family Service Centre (www.msf.gov.sg/fsclocator).
