We are saddened to hear of Mr L’s passing on 4 February, a day after he was admitted to hospital. We have worked with our community partners to arrange for bereavement services.
Our colleagues at the Social Service Office (SSO)@Bedok first met Mr L in 2009. Since then, he had been a recipient of our ComCare Long Term Assistance.
We are thankful to the Advisor, our many community partners, government agencies, volunteers as well as Mr L’s neighbours for working together with us to support and care for Mr L over the years, especially during the time when he was undergoing treatment for cancer.
As Mr L lived alone and had no family, our community partners Kembangan-Chai Chee Senior Activity Centre (KCC SAC), Cheng Hong Welfare Service Society (CHWSS), Lions Befrienders, Filos Community Services and the Grassroots visited and engaged him regularly to provide companionship and ensure that his daily needs were met. HDB also worked with Grassroots, community partners and Marine Parade Town Council to declutter Mr L’s flat and improve his living environment.
When Mr L was diagnosed with cancer, the SSO@Bedok and Agency for Integrated Care worked with community partners such as KCC SAC, HCA Hospice Care and the Grassroots to discuss his care plans and monitor his condition, while CHWSS continued escorting him to his medical appointments.
CHWSS sent Mr L to the hospital when his condition deteriorated. Following his hospital admission, HCA Hospice Care and Filos visited him and worked with the medical social worker from Changi General Hospital regarding his care plans.
There are others like Mr L who need our help and support.
We encourage the public to step forward, volunteer and lend a hand to our vulnerable seniors, and support them in ageing with peace of mind. If members of public come across individuals or families who require support, please reach out to us at our ComCare hotline at 1800-222-0000, approach your nearest SSO ( www.msf.gov.sg/ssolocator) or Family Service Centre (www.msf.gov.sg/fsclocator).
