Question
To ask Minister of Social and Family Development in each year of the past 10 years (a) how many Singaporean children have been born to Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP) holders versus Singaporean women; (b) how many divorces have happened between couples, at least one of whom is an LTVP holder, who have Singaporean children; and (c) what are the comparable national-level figures for the same period of time.
Answer
1. Table 1 shows the number of Singapore Citizen (SC) children born in Singapore to female Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP) holders and to SC women between 2010 and 2019.
Table 1. Number of SC Children Born in Singapore to Female LTVP Holders and SCs
Number of SC Children Born in Singapore to Female LTVP Holders[1] | Number of SC Children Born in Singapore to Female SCs | |
---|---|---|
2019 | 1,406 | 26,619 |
2018 | 1,716 | 26,079 |
2017 | 1,803 | 25,669 |
2016 | 1,795 | 26,141 |
2015 | 1,722 | 26,586 |
2014 | 1,728 | 26,010 |
2013 | 1,544 | 24,266 |
2012 | 1,543 | 25,971 |
2011 | 1,442 | 24,283 |
2010 | 1,128 | 23,638 |
2. Data on divorces between SCs and LTVP holders with at least one child under 21 years old between 2010 and 2019 is unavailable. The Family Justice Courts and the Syariah Court do not track divorce by the type of immigration passes held by Non-Resident parties.
[1] These refer to children born to female LTVP holders who are legally married to male SCs. Figures are based on those whose mothers’ FIN numbers (not a mandatory data field) were indicated at the point of birth registration.
