For Donees

Before accepting your appointment in the Donor’s LPA, we encourage you to:

  • Discuss with the Donor on the powers and scope of authority granted to you in the LPA.
  • If there is more than 1 Donee, clarify with the Donor if you will be making decisions jointly, or jointly and severally with the other Donee.
  • Refer to the Code of Practice to understand the roles and responsibilities of a Donee, and best practices to act in the Donor’s best interest when he/she loses mental capacity.

Steps to accept appointment as Donee

  1. Log in to OPG Online (OPGO) portal via Singpass.
  2. If it is your first-time login, update your Profile page*.
  3. Click on the ‘Overview’ tab and scroll down to the ‘You as a Donee’ section.
  4. Click on ‘View LPA to Accept’ button to access the Donor’s LPA.
  5. Read the Important Information and details in the LPA before accepting your appointment.

*Please also update your contact details on this Profile page as and when there are changes.

Using the LPA as a Donee

Donees should send the electronic copy of the Donor’s registered LPA to third parties via OPGO when transacting on the Donor’s behalf after he/she has lost mental capacity, as it is the most updated copy of the LPA. More information on using an LPA can be found here.

Replacement Donees will only be able to view the registered LPA when they become the Donee. If you are a Replacement Donee, you are encouraged to ask the Donor to share a copy of his/her LPA with you via the 'send' function on OPGO for reference, and to have regular conversations with your Donor and his/her Donee(s), so that you are ready to step in when the need arises.
