29 Aug 2022

1. Singapore will participate in its first Constructive Dialogue with the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (‘the Committee’) on 30 and 31 August 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.

2. Singapore’s delegation will be led by Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Social and Family Development and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. The delegation comprises officials from the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Ministries of Defence, Education, Foreign Affairs, Health, Home Affairs, Law, Manpower, National Development, Transport, and Social and Family Development. It also includes a representative from SG Enable, and one non-governmental delegate from the disability sector, Ms Chia Yong Yong.

3. Singapore ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in 2013. The CRPD is the primary international human rights instrument focusing on persons with disabilities. It protects the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities through thematic Articles, comprehensively covering areas such as equality, non-discrimination, employment, accessibility, and education.

4. During this upcoming Constructive Dialogue, Singapore will share the progress we have made and our continued commitment in our journey towards an inclusive society.
