Dating vouchers as gifts of love to encourage singles to widen their social circle through dating activities.

4 Dec 2012, Singapore — The Social Development Network (SDN) unveiled today a new initiative and other plans to create more opportunities for singles to interact.

As part of a collaborative effort with the SDNTrust Accredited Agencies, SDN launched a dating cash voucher targeted not at singles, but the loved ones around them. Members of public can now purchase these vouchers as gifts of love for their friends and family members who are single, to encourage them to widen their social circle through events and services offered by the SDNTrust accredited[1] dating agencies.

SDN also announced two other upcoming programmes for singles - Dating Fest, a five-week celebration from 29 December 2012 to 2 February 2013. Singles can participate in dating events and activities specially provided by accredited agencies during this period. The five-week celebration will culminate with a mass speed dating Dinner and Dance on 2 February 2013, which SDN hopes to break the Singapore or even world record by having the largest number of singles in a single speed dating session.

Throughout the Dating Fest, singles can enjoy a subsidy of up to 50 per cent of fees for any accredited agencies’ events, services and packages, capped at $100 per single. The newly launched dating vouchers can also be utilised during this period. With these gifts of love from their loved ones and the subsidy provided, singles will have the opportunity to benefit from a range of activities during the Dating Fest at low or even zero cost.

At a networking event for SDN’s partners in the public, private and people sectors, Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Mr Chan Chun Sing encouraged the partners to continue to work together to create more opportunities and a vibrant environment conducive for singles to meet and forge meaningful relationships.

“The government can help sculpt an environment conducive for singles to interact with one another, but we cannot do this alone. The private dating agencies need to provide professional and quality services and activities that appeal to and meet the varying needs of singles. We need business organisations and community partners to organise activities for singles to meet other like-minded singles in more natural settings. The community can also help by creating opportunities for their single family members and friends to come together, or simply giving them a little nudge to make new friends by trying out dating events and services with the dating vouchers,” said Mr Chan.
