A 62-year-old male resident of Acacia Home (“the Home), located at Admiralty Street, has tested positive for COVID-19. This is a welfare home managed by Sathya Sai Social Services for destitute persons, and funded by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). Contact tracing is ongoing. Acacia Home will not take in new residents for the time being.
2 The Home has conducted a thorough cleaning and disinfection of its premises and is closely monitoring the health of its staff and residents. As a precautionary measure, all staff and residents of the Home are being tested for the virus.
3 The Home has been implementing the precautionary measures according to MSF’s advisories for all residential and community-based facilities since January. These precautionary measures include, among others, restriction of visitors, suspension of large group and communal activities, wearing of masks by staff, health checks and twice-daily temperature screening for all staff and residents.
4 MSF is monitoring the situation closely. We are working with the management, staff, and residents of the Home to ensure the safety and well-being of all. Residential and community-based facilities are reminded to be vigilant when conducting health checks on staff and residents, and to observe high standards of personal and environmental hygiene. This includes keeping the facility’s environment clean, and frequent washing of hands with soap – especially before the preparation and consumption of meals, after toilet visits or when hands are dirtied by respiratory secretions after coughing or sneezing.
