What is the scheme about?
Through the Panel Deputies Scheme, public-spirited professionals are appointed by the Court as deputies on a pro bono basis for persons with no mental capacity (referred to as 'P'). They help to liquidate and consolidate P's assets, and set up Trust funds with the Special Needs Trust Company to pay for P's care. Once these have been arranged, panel deputies apply to the Court for discharge from their duties.
Who is eligible for the scheme?
Ps assisted under the Panel Deputy Scheme are identified through referral by social workers on a needs basis only. They do not have family support and need to reside in a nursing home on a long-term basis.
