About Social Residential Homes (SRHs)

Social Residential Homes (SRHs) provide residential accommodation and any of the following: (i) biopsychosocial intervention, (ii) care, or (iii) support to carry out daily living activities, to vulnerable persons. These homes cater to various profiles, including children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.​ 


MSF oversees a range of SRHs that provide short- to long-term residential care, such as:​ 

  1. Children's Homes

  2. Children Disability Homes

  3. Sheltered Homes

  4. Welfare Homes

  5. Adult Disability Homes

  6. Adult Disability Hostels


Under the Social Residential Homes Act (SRHA), these residential homes will require a valid licence to operate. For more information on the licence classes under SRHA and how they apply to these residential home types, please refer to Classes of Licence.


If you operate a similar residential facility or service that houses any of the following groups and is not a healthcare premise, you may also require a SRHA licence:

  • Children, who are 21 years of age or younger
  • Elderly persons, who are 60 years of age or older
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Destitute persons
